ABN Cleanroom Technology is set to begin work on a new cleanroom for satellite communications company SES in Luxembourg.
The cleanroom specialist announced Tuesday that it had been selected by SES to deliver the new controlled-environment facility, with construction due to start shortly.
The ISO Class 7 facility will cover approximately 100 sqm and have a maximum permitted concentration of 352,000 particles of 0.5 micrometres or larger per cubic metre of air.
“For satellite integration and testing, this level of cleanliness is essential to protect sensitive components such as optics, sensors and electronics against particulate contamination,” a spokesperson from ABN told Cleanroom Technology.
ABN is delivering the project on a full turnkey basis, taking responsibility for the entire trajectory, from concept and engineering through to installation, commissioning and qualification.
The company will provide the modular construction, HVAC and air handling, filtration, electrical installation, and control and monitoring systems.
ABN’s ICONIC system is a pre-engineered, modular cleanroom concept designed as a plug-and-play solution.
“Because ICONIC is a modular system, the cleanroom can be adapted or expanded as the client's activities grow, without starting from scratch,” said the spokesperson.
ABN originally developed ICONIC for microelectronics and high-tech manufacturing, and the concept has since been applied to other sectors.
For the SES project, the system has been configured specifically for satellite work, with open integration areas and flexible access for handling delicate hardware.
The cleanroom will feature flush wall and ceiling finishes designed to simplify cleaning and minimise particle build-up.
“Alongside the ISO Class 7 cleanliness, temperature, humidity and pressure are carefully controlled, which is critical for the stability and reliability of satellite components,” the spokesperson said.
ABN said the use of prefabricated modular components would allow for a shorter installation time on site and reliable planning.
The company has not disclosed the project value or a completion date.
Other recent ABN projects
The SES project follows three other recent ABN projects in Europe this summer, spanning healthcare and aerospace applications.
The company recently completed the installation of examination lights and equipment pendants in the operating rooms at the new day-care hospital at Imeldaziekenhuis Bonheiden in Belgium.
ABN also started construction of a new cleanroom and practical teaching facility for Belgian training organisation ViTalent, while completing a cleanroom facility in Spain for aerospace company Kreios Space.
