SK Hynix has reached a new construction milestone at its first semiconductor fabrication plant in the Yongin semiconductor cluster, with work moving into the cleanroom fit-out phase.
The Yongin semiconductor cluster is a KRW 550 trillion (about $400bn) megaproject located in Wonsam-myeon, Yongin. Spanning 4.15 million sqm, it will house four next-generation DRAM and AI memory fabs.
South Korean chemical supply systems specialist TEMC CNS has begun installing the Central Chemical Supply System (CCSS), following a KRW25.25bn ($18.7m) contract award.
The system will supply high-purity process chemicals to semiconductor manufacturing equipment once the fab becomes operational.
The start of CCSS installation signals the transition from structural construction to cleanroom and process utility fit-out.
The package includes inorganic and organic bulk chemical supply systems, Valve Manifold Boxes (VMBs) and a Chemical Management System (CMS) to safely store, distribute and monitor process chemicals.
The latest contract covers around 82% of a previously announced KRW48.4bn (US$35.9m) supply agreement, with further orders expected as development of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster continues.
SK Hynix is targeting the opening of the first cleanroom at Yongin Fab 1 in February 2027, around three months ahead of its original schedule.
The Yongin site will eventually comprise four advanced DRAM fabrication plants.
