CWS Cleanrooms has reached an operational milestone with the first shipment of decontaminated cleanroom garments from its new facility in Puurs, Belgium.
The shipment marks the transition from project delivery to full commercial operations at the site.
The site has been developed to provide laundering and decontamination services for reusable cleanroom garments used across regulated industries, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and life sciences.
Engineering consultancy Munschek Process Consulting (MPC) supported the project from the initial concept phase through to commissioning, providing factory planning, cleanroom planning and project management throughout the development.
Construction of the facility began in early 2025 as a new ISO Class 5 cleanroom laundry for the Belgian market, incorporating energy-efficient technologies and sustainability measures to reduce gas consumption and lower the site's carbon footprint.
Previous project updates described the facility as one of Europe's most sustainable cleanroom laundries.
According to MPC, the project focused on integrating process design, facility layout, material flows and cleanroom requirements at an early stage to enable efficient commissioning and long-term operational performance.
The planning approach also incorporated production logistics, personnel flows and contamination control requirements to ensure the facility was ready for commercial operation from day one.
A key challenge was combining stringent hygiene standards, material separation and process reliability with efficient production and logistics processes.
MPC said this required the close coordination of building design, equipment layout and operational workflows throughout the planning process.
The consultancy added that the project demonstrates the importance of detailed front-end planning in reducing the need for post-installation optimisation, helping facilities achieve stable operations immediately after commissioning.
MPC has published further technical insights into the project, outlining the planning methodology used throughout the development and the transition into full operational service.
Other CWS Cleanroom projects
The Puurs facility is one of CWS Cleanrooms' latest investments in expanding its cleanroom garment processing network across Europe.
In May, ABN Cleanroom Technology completed an upper-level ceiling installation and floor tracking, and is advancing wall and window installation for new ISO Class 5 and 7 suites for CWS Cleanrooms in Dublin.
Last year, the company also relocated its cleanroom in Germany with help from Lindner Group.
