Simple analysis of pathogen contamination in food

Published: 5-Oct-2009

Bioo Scientific, a US food safety testing expert, claims to have simplified the analysis of pathogen contamination in food with its MaxSignal E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella test strip kits. The company says the kits are easy to use, accurate and affordable. They do not require specialised training or skills to use and contain all of the reagents needed to select and detect for these pathogenic bacteria.

Both should be used as an adjunct to culture and both have the capacity for 10 determinations or testing of 10 samples plus one for a control. The selective broth for each kit and the controls should be kept at 4–8°C, while the rest of the kit should be stored at room temperature. The shelf life is 12 months when the kits are properly stored.

The MaxSignal E. coli test strip kit is a rapid lateral flow test for point-of-care use or reference lab settings. The test is designed as an aid in the detection of E. coli O157:H7.

The MaxSignal Salmonella test strip kit is for the detection of Salmonella in enriched media. It enables government agencies, seafood processors and quality assurance organisations to detect positive and negative Salmonella samples. www.biooscientific.com
