The radio frequency and microwave assembly manufacturer hones precision and reliability in its production process

Micro-Coax, a US-based provider of design expertise for radio frequency (RF) and microwave transmission line products, has increased the size of its Pottstown, PA-based cleanroom from 1,800 to 5,100ft2 (approximately 165 to 475m2).

The firm said the move was part of an effort to ensure precision and reliability for its customers in the space, military, test & measurement, telecommunications and aviation markets.

'Micro-Coax is now the only manufacturer in the world to produce all microwave assemblies in such a facility,' said John Lewis, Director of Product Management at Micro-Coax.

'Our goal has always been to provide our customers with the most reliable, leading-edge transmission line technology and this expansion will further enhance the product performance we can offer.'

Micro-Coax has converted a previously industrial-grade assembly area into a cleanroom, almost tripling the space and the capacity to produce precision assemblies.

A variety of new equipment includes several precision assembly cells, thermal chambers, network analysers, as well as a new X-ray machine capable of taking X-ray video.

Combined, this equipment significantly increase not only the capacity and flexibility in the new cleanroom, but also ensure the highest quality assurance, the firm said.

The result for customers is greater reliability and improved delivery.

With the expanded space, Micro-Coax is able to accommodate all microwave assembly in a cleanroom environment, an increase of more than 250%.

Not only does the additional space increase efficiency, but it also streamlines the assembly process through the co-location of key equipment, flexibility of production, enhanced operator cross-training and the elimination of foreign object debris (FOD) in products.

The Micro-Coax facility features three real-time X-ray machines, enabling the high degree of assurance required by the space, aviation, test & measurement and military industries.

Micro-Coax was bought in June by Carlisle Interconnect Technologies, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance wire and cable, including optical fibre.
