Contracting SRBA Controlled Environments and ABN Cleanroom Technology, KMWE has completed a cleanroom project at the Brainport Industries Campus in the Netherlands 3D printing and repair facility

SRBA Group has completed a new facility for Netherlands-based high-tech component manufacturer KMWE.

SRBA is a Netherlands-based controlled environments specialist that will be the main contractor on the new cleanroom project.

The cleanroom project included the design and construction of a new ISO Class 6 and 7 cleanroom at KMWE's 3D printing and repair facility on the Brainport Industries Campus in the Netherlands.

The new area is about 540 sqm with heights of almost 6.5 metres.

SRBA worked with cleanroom expert ABN Cleanroom Technology and funding consultancy PNO Consultants for the build.

KMWE, along with its subsidiary ATM Oirschot, announced their collaboration with SRBA Controlled Environments, and ABN Cleanroom Technology in February 2024.

The cleanroom was also developed with a focus on circular design principles, emphasising resource efficiency and reducing waste

Being the main contractor of this project, SRBA Controlled Environments provided KMWE with the cleanroom wall and ceiling system and coordinated the entire project.

Sustainability in the build

The cleanroom incorporates the patented VIX concept, which revolves around a decentralised air circulation system that ensures cleanrooms maintain optimal air quality with lower energy consumption.

ABN Cleanroom Technology developed the VIX concept, which achieves energy savings of up to 60% compared to conventional designs.

Further, companies in the Netherlands can apply for subsidies based on energy efficiency, the VIX concept was officially recognised as qualifying for an energy investment allowance subsidy. PNO Consultants were involved as funding consultants to help with these subsidies.

Jo Nelissen, CEO of ABN Cleanroom Technology, said: "KMWE not only benefits from having an energy-efficient cleanroom but also gains fiscal advantages by choosing our VIX concept."

Lucas Linnebank, Clustermanager Sustainability at PNO Consultants, said: "Subsidies are crucial for realising energy projects, yet each case requires a unique, tailored approach. Every situation is different, and we understand the importance of customising solutions. Our commitment is to deliver the best results for our clients every time."

The cleanroom was also developed with a focus on circular design principles, emphasising resource efficiency and reducing waste.

An advanced AI data analytics feature is included, ensuring that the cleanroom is fully equipped for Industry 4.0 standards, which enhances manufacturing processes.

Modular design
