Interflow has completed an upgrade of the existing cleanroom facilities at Pall Medistad in Medemblik, the Netherlands, to address increased heat loads and changing production requirements.
The project involved modifications to the air-handling system, ductwork and pressure hierarchy, alongside optimisation of airflow volumes, pressure levels and filtration.
The cleanroom has been in use since 2018, but increased staffing and heat generated by production machinery meant the existing installation was no longer able to consistently maintain the required environmental conditions.
Pall Medistad also required increased air circulation to maintain the required conditions during production.
HVAC systems integrated with existing installation
Interflow developed several options for upgrading the facility before agreeing an approach with Pall Medistad that would allow production to continue throughout the project.
Additional HVAC installations were prepared, assembled and tested before being connected to the existing cleanroom during a weekend.
The approach meant the upgraded installation could be brought into operation without an interruption to production.
The work was carried out in phases within the operational cleanroom, with the aim of limiting disruption to manufacturing processes.
The modifications are intended to give the facility greater flexibility as production requirements change, while providing more stable environmental conditions.
Pall Medistad is part of Cytiva and produces filtration and separation technologies for applications including the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
The Medemblik facility uses cleanrooms as part of its controlled manufacturing processes.
Other Interflow completed projects
Interflow has already had a busy year, delivering cleanroom projects and taking on new work across advanced manufacturing and high-purity systems.
In June, Interflow completed a 180 sqm ISO Class 7 cleanroom for Dutch medical technology company Medspray in Enschede, providing additional manufacturing capacity for its precision spray devices.
As of March, the company is also supporting construction of a €150m pilot line at High Tech Campus Eindhoven featuring the world’s first industrial-scale 6-inch indium phosphide photonic chip cleanroom.
Interflow also joined forces with BAM Industrie’s High Purity Systems unit in February, bringing cleanroom, high-purity and medical gas expertise together under a single organisation.
