VES shares with Cleanroom Technology its refurbishment project at Stellantis Ellesmere Port

VES, a UK-based energy-efficient commercial heat recovery ventilation products specialist, has implemented a refurbishment project at Stellantis Ellesmere Port.

Stellantis Ellesmere Port is a vehicle manufacturing plant located in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, England.

VES was commissioned by Cross Group, a group of companies that cater to commercial and industrial companies.

Project details

Job type: Refurbishment, new product and controls

Sector: Automotive

End user: Stellantis

Client: Cross Group (Contractor)

Region: North West

Summary: Refurbishment of 18AHUs, installation of 4 bespoke AHUs and 52 control panels at Stellantis Ellesmere Port.

Project overview

VES was employed by Cross Group to deliver a turnkey refurbishment of 18AHUs, install 4 bespoke external AHUs, and fit 52 control panels serving VES, Sintra, and Variwind units at a global automotive manufacturing plant.

The project, delivered by VES engineers, focused on the task of improving airflow, operational efficiency, and the working environment.

Key component upgrades included fans, LPHW coils, filters, sensors, pressure switches, 3-port valves, and pressure transducers.

Project challenges

Height constraints: All AHUs were worked on at heights of over 4m, which posed logistical challenges for access and installation.

Live production environment: The installation work was conducted within a live, fully operational motor production facility, which required careful coordination to minimise disruption to Stellantis’ manufacturing processes.

Diverse unit sizes and configurations: The project involved handling multiple AHU types and sizes, requiring a customised approach to refurbishment and installation. After conducting a site survey, tailored solutions were safely implemented for each unit type.

VES impact

VES gave its takeaways from the project:

Comprehensive multi-solution approach: The project showcased our ability to deliver a complete turn-key service and provide a full range of solutions, encompassing the refurbishment of existing units, installation of bespoke AHUs, and new control panels.

Cost-effective and safe delivery: We completed the project within budget and on schedule. Despite operating within a complex, live production environment, the project was executed safely without disrupting factory operations.

Partnership with Cross Group: The collaboration between VES and Cross Group ensured seamless execution, effectively addressing Stellantis’ needs and setting the stage for future projects.

Joe Conway of Cross Group said: “VES completed their work within the specified timescale, meeting high standards of health and safety, craftsmanship, and quality engineering”.
