The new plastic bracket is the result of a joint venture between UK companies Tech-brack and Hytec Plastic Mouldings, and is said to have weight-saving and environmental benefits over metal, as well as having the possibility of an added antimicrobials to protect against the spread of superbugs such as MRSA.
During use, metal brackets can suffer chips and cracking to the painted surfaces which means the product loses its integrity, becomes difficult to keep clean and can harbour bacteria and germs.
With the new plastic bracket, the parts are made using state-of-the-art injection moulding procedures and the antimicrobials can be added as a pigment before production, providing integrity throughout the product.
Peter Lucas of Tech-Brack says the brackets have the potential to help combat the spread of microbes by adding an extra layer of protection when combined with normal cleaning operation: 'The opportunities to use high specification polymer with no on-going maintenance instead of copper or brass, which are expensive and high maintenance, should be investigated,” says Lucas. “The cost-savings alone would be enormous,” he added.
The brackets are already available for 23” to 32” TV/monitor sizes.
