US demand for biocides to reach US$4.3bn by 2018
Biocides for use in cleaning products are expected to remain the largest industrial market
Demand for speciality biocides in the US is forecast to rise 3.9% a year to $4.3bn in 2018, according to a new report from the Cleveland-based research company Freedonia Group. In volume terms, demand is expected to increase 1.3% annually to 1.5 billion pounds over the same period.
Improving economic conditions, coupled with a rising emphasis on improved sanitation in production processes and workplaces, will be the primary driver of growth in the industrial markets for biocides. The industrial sector is expected to see growth of 4.3% a year between 2013 and 2018, the Biocides report says.
Biocides for use in cleaning products are expected to remain the largest industrial market, and will show favourable growth prospects going forward as concerns about healthcare-associated infections, food contamination, and other health issues continue to rise, the report says.
