Swedes make LCD panels in new Ventspils plant
Fully automated production line is especially adapted to cater for both low and high volume custom orders
In May, Latvian-Swedish SIA EuroLCDs opened an LCD panel plant in Ventspils. The plant will produce custom LCD panels, ranging from LCD shutters for 3D applications to custom-made LCD panels and automatically darkening filters for welding masks.
Jointly owned by Sweden’s LC-TEC Display, Hornell Teknikinvest, Macro Riga and pan-Baltic investment fund BaltCap, the plant features an 1,800m2 cleanroom, which runs a fully-automated production line especially adapted to cater for both low and high volume custom orders.
The facility can handle the entire manufacturing process: coating, assembling and testing the panels as well as cutting them into individual cells, applying connectors and testing the finished products. Some of its most labour-intensive operations will be outsourced to EuroLCDs’ sister company in China. The focus will be on small custom-made displays, designed for industrial use and as device displays, according to Aldis Rozevskis, head of sales at EuroLCDs.
The 30ha Ventspils High Technology Park features numerous labs, production facilities and a business incubator and companies working in the park can apply for tax breaks.
