One of the largest food retailers in the US is to install about 750 of PuriCore’s Sterilox Food Safety system throughout its store network over the course of the year.

The retailer, whose name cannot be disclosed, will have Puricore systems installed from next month right through to the second half of this year, as part of the $11m agreement.

More than 20 US supermarket chains, including now two of the five largest, use Sterilox Food Safety Systems, the company says.

The systems are used in the crisping, misting, cut fruit, and seafood programmes to protect against cross-contamination and enhance the freshness of perishables.

“We are very pleased that a second top-five US supermarket will implement our Sterilox Food Safety System,” said PuriCore ceo Greg Bosch. “This account’s installations establish a strong foundation for significant growth in 2008, and we anticipate further orders to complete its chain-wide implementation throughout North America in 2009.”
