Prudential Overall Supply has broken ground on a new cleanroom and industrial laundry processing facility in Austin, Texas.
The company is a US provider of industrial laundry, uniform rental and cleanroom garment processing services for sectors including semiconductor, pharmaceutical and advanced manufacturing.
The facility at 1001 West Howard Lane is expected to open in 2028 and will expand Prudential’s capacity to provide specialist laundry and garment-processing services to companies operating in controlled environments.
The project was marked by a groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony on 1 October, attended by company representatives, local officials and the Textile Rental Services Association (TRSA).
The facility is expected to comprise approximately 100,000 sqft, with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation recording 99,450 sqft for the project.
The regulatory filing describes the work as an interior remodel of an existing tilt-wall building, including offices, a production floor, cleanroom and storage areas.
Prudential has described the development as a $40–45m investment, while TRSA said the company is investing more than $50m in the Austin community.
The project is expected to create more than 150 jobs, with operations targeted for the first quarter of 2028.
Cleanroom laundry capacity
The new operation will be Prudential’s 38th US location and its ninth ISO Class 3 cleanroom laundry processing facility.
It is planned to operate 24 hours a day and will have capacity to process approximately 82 million lb of industrial laundry and 20 million lb of cleanroom laundry annually, according to the company.
The cleanroom products made in the facility will support industries including semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, bioscience, aerospace and electronics.
The Austin facility will also provide industrial uniforms, towels, floor mats and other facility services alongside its cleanroom laundry operations.
The project forms part of Prudential’s wider expansion of its specialist cleanroom laundry network.
The company opened a 68,000 sqft facility in Heath, Ohio, in 2025 following a $35m investment.
The facility became its eighth ISO Class 3 cleanroom laundry processing plant in the US, serving semiconductor, pharmaceutical, bioscience, aerospace and electronics customers.
Focus on resource efficiency
The Austin facility is also expected to incorporate technologies and practices intended to reduce water and energy consumption.
Prudential operates its Clean Green programme around water and energy efficiency, waste reduction and resource recovery.
The company says its high-capacity washing, drying and finishing equipment is designed to reduce resource use across its laundry operations.
The Austin project continues a wider push by Prudential to improve the environmental performance of its cleanroom facilities.
In 2023, the company installed a 474kW solar array at its Milpitas, California, cleanroom laundry facility.
The system was designed to generate around 724,000kWh of electricity annually and meet approximately 36% of the plant’s energy needs.
The Austin development will provide additional cleanroom laundry capacity in a region with growing semiconductor, pharmaceutical and advanced manufacturing activity.
Prudential expects the new facility to be completed and operational in the first quarter of 2028.
