On stand I201, manufacturer of microbiological culture media and related products Oxoid will exhibit a wide selection for the detection and identification of microbial contaminants used in the monitoring and control of clean areas; water, raw material and end product testing; process validation; and sterility testing.

The range includes products for the monitoring of sterile production environments, cleanrooms and surgical areas for microbiological contamination, including:

Oxoid Prepared Media – a wide range of pre-prepared culture media products, manufactured using high quality Oxoid Dehydrated Culture media. This range includes Contact Plates for sampling clean surfaces, and Settle Plates that can be placed strategically in clean areas to monitor and detect air-borne microorganisms. Oxoid Prepared Media plates can be supplied irradiated and triple-wrapped, ideal for use in designated clean areas. Standard wrap is permeable to prevent condensation, but impermeable isolator wrap is also available. This allows plates for environmental monitoring to be left in an isolator unit while it is being decontaminated with systems such as Vaporised Hydrogen Peroxide (VHP).

The Oxoid Prepared Media range also includes products for the testing of raw materials and finished products – from general purpose media to selective products for the growth and presumptive identification of specific organisms, such as Burkholderia cepacia, Clostridia and other anaerobes, E. coli/coliforms, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, yeasts and moulds. In addition, a comprehensive range of rinse solutions and media are available for Sterility Testing.

Cold filterable Tryptone Soya Broth is available in dehydrated or prepared media formats (in volumes up to 100 litres) for use in aseptic process validation. A meat-free alternative, Vegetable Peptone Broth, is also available.

Oxoid products on show for the identification of micro-organisms include: RapID Identification Panels – utilising enzyme technology for rapid (4hr) and reliable identification of anaerobes; Corynebacterium and other coryneform bacilli; oxidase positive, Gram-negative bacilli, including Vibrio species; oxidase negative, Gram-negative bacilli; Streptococci and related genera; and yeasts.

For the automated microbial characterisation and identification, the Dupon Qualicon RiboPrinter System (available from Oxoid in Europe and Australia), is an automated system that allows DNA fingerprint identifications to be performed routinely with minimal operator intervention, walk-away processing and results in just 8 hrs. In addition, unlike other DNA sequencing technologies, the RiboPrinter is able to characterise organisms to provide strain level identifications. This is particularly valuable in pinpointing sources of contamination.
