M+W Zander to build new semiconductor factory in China

M+W Zander (Shanghai) Co., of China, has been awarded a new major contract for the design and con-struction of the most advanced semiconductor factory in China.


The company, part of the M+W Zander Group, was appointed as general contractor for engineering, pro-curement and construction. This includes technical set-up both of the factory and of around 20,000m2 of cleanroom area.

The order volume amounts to more than US400m (e273m). The name of the customer is not being dis-closed.

A ground-breaking ceremony in September marked the start of work on the foundations for the new factory in Dalian in northeast China. The con-struction project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2009.

M+W Zander has been active in China since the early 1990s. It is well positioned in the country with its rapidly developing electronics market (e.g. semicon-ductor and flat-screen) as well as in other segments such as pharmaceutical and automotive industry.
