Genentech is to invest approximately $750m in a new manufacturing facility at its Hillsboro campus in Oregon, expanding capacity for the fill-finish of injectable medicines and drug delivery devices.
The Roche subsidiary said the facility will add end-to-end device filling capabilities to the 75-acre site and support the production of advanced delivery systems, including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors.
The investment will double the size of Genentech’s existing Hillsboro facility and is expected to create around 250 specialised manufacturing jobs, alongside approximately 200 construction jobs during site development.
Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2031.
Designed for flexible fill-finish capacity
The new facility will be designed to accommodate both high- and low-volume device filling across Roche and Genentech’s portfolio.
According to Genentech, the flexible manufacturing capability is intended to allow the site to adapt to changing production requirements as the company’s portfolio develops.
The expansion will form part of Genentech’s wider US manufacturing network, which currently comprises 13 manufacturing sites and 15 research and development sites across eight states.
The company said the Hillsboro project follows the recent topping out of a new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, which is being developed to support production of future metabolic medicines.
The investment is the latest addition to Roche and Genentech’s US manufacturing footprint, which employs approximately 25,000 people across 24 locations.
