Aspar Pharmaceuticals boosts contaminant detection on drugs
A leading supplier of analgesics to the British pharmacy sector has increased its product inspection and throughput capabilities with the introduction of two new machines.
Aspar Pharmaceuticals has added two Tablex 2 metal detectors from Mettler-Toledo Safeline.
Mettler-Toledo Safeline supplies metal detection and x-ray inspection solutions for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
Easily integrated onto the company’s existing production lines, the Tablex 2 metal detectors can inspect a range of tablets and capsules including paracetamol, aspirin, dispersible aspirin, ibuprofen and indometacin at an inspection rate of up to 10,000 tablets per minute. Tablex systems incorporate a number of failsafe reject systems including side diverter and lift flap options – guaranteeing contaminant-free products for the consumer market.
Company manufacturing manager Tom Burke, manufacturing manager, said: ‘Difficult to detect contaminants such as metal slivers are very common in our industry. To ensure our products meet the highest standards, we require reliable equipment that offers guaranteed efficiency. In tests against competing inspection systems, the Tablex 2 machines provided the highest detection levels. Furthermore, we required systems with a small footprint to fit with our existing equipment. Mettler-Toledo Safeline was very flexible and provided remote displays for some of our eight detectors.’
Neil Giles, marketing manager at Mettler-Toledo Safeline, said: ‘Tablex 2’s user-friendly control technology offers Aspar operatives simple set-up routines and maximum process control through Safeline’s proven Signature software platform. Our Tablex 2 detection systems can detect non-magnetic stainless steel ball sizes down to 0.39mm – a level unmatched by other detection systems available today. With its enhanced filtering systems, the Tablex 2 detectors can also locate common contaminants including screen / sieve wire and swarf.’
