The Watford-based firm has licensed its air purification system to BA Holdings for use in the leisure sector. BA Holdings, of Battersea, London, has sold 'fragrance delivery' systems to the leisure industries since 2004.
BA Holdings will market the technology as a wall-mounted serviced unit, measuring 600 x 300 x 280mm under the Cirrus3 brand. The unit is also suitable for cleanroom/manufacturing environments, which will be served by Tri-Air.
The Cirrus3 250 is capable of decontaminating and protecting a space of up to 350m3 and costs from £4,000 per annum to operate. A smaller product suitable for spaces up to 50m3, such as within a hotel, cruise ship or hospital bedroom, will be available from May.
“Tri-Air has spent three years securing patents in 36 jurisdictions around the world and refining the technology for manufacture. We are now in discussion with potential licence partners in the hospitals, homeland security, commercial risk management, property and domestic appliance sectors,” said Gideon Davenport, chief executive of Tri-Air Developments, which was co-founded by the UK's BRE (Building Research Establishment), microbiologists at Promanade and technology transfer specialist Inventa Partners.
Tests by the UK's Health Protection Agency have confirmed the effectiveness of the Tri-Air purification system in eliminating both airborne and surface bacteria and viruses. Analysis showed a 99.999% kill rate with airborne test Staphylococcus, in less than two minutes.
The technology is not a filtration process: the unit combines three methods of decontamination – non-thermal plasma, ultra-violet catalysis and hydroxyl radical production – to simulate the natural purification properties of fresh air. Tri-Air says the technology 'scrubs' the air and surfaces clean of airborne viruses and bacteria, which would help protect against hospital acquired infections and shield offices, secure areas, cruise ships and public spaces from flu viruses and bacteria. It continually decontaminates by a process of advanced oxidation.
