A welcome return

Extract Technology (Carlisle Life Sciences Europe) has announced the return of the company's Facilities' Construction Division to its Huddersfield base. In May 2000, the Pharmaspace team temporarily moved to larger premises in York where they could more comfortably undertake one of the biggest modular pharmaceutical facility construction projects in the world, fitting out and equipping 38 interconnecting sterile modules for a client in Puerto Rico. The PharmaSpace System comprises fully self-contained modules that incorporate state-of-the-art containment facilities and spacious technical service areas. All finishes are cleanroom-compatible and are particularly suited to powder-processing and chemical transfer applications. "With such a huge order to complete in a relatively short space of time, the sensible thing was to uproot to larger premises in York where the whole project could be more easily managed," said Martyn Ryder, director at Carlisle Life Sciences Europe, adding that although the Huddersfield site is capable of managing most reasonably-sized projects, it was far more efficient and cost-effective to move one of this magnitude onto a larger ground area. Pharmaspace is now back at base and the company's project team is well into the first of a series of orders for its world-renowned modular aseptic units, specifically designed and equipped for companies throughout the world within the bio-pharm industry. The current job is to fit out an isolator unit for a large pharmaceutical laboratory in the US. Once the basic cabin shell has been delivered to the Pharmaspace facility, the project team begins the meticulous job of fitting out the interior to the customer's very specific and individual requirements. In this instance the unit will include a central sterile cleanroom area for a state-of-the-art extract technology isolator, service room, air-lock, showers and an external air handling unit. "Each Pharmaspace facility is custom-built to suit a client's particular process or cleanroom application and can be delivered as a complete package to an existing site," continued Ryder. "The obvious advantage of this system is that we can provide fully fitted-out, pre-engineered modular plant solutions that contain all the necessary walls, ceilings, floors, HVAC, electrics and process installations that will allow the client a quick entry into the market with the minimum of site impact and minimum of downtime."
