Water treatment enables chemical-free disinfection

Osmotron Select, a fully hot water sanitisable and prevalidated pharmaceutical water treatment system from Christ, is now available worldwide.

By raising the temperature in a whole purified water generation plant to 80°C, hot water replaces the chemical disinfection needed previously. In addition, sanitisation of the softener and both the reverse osmosis stage and the electrode ionisation modules is achieved. The process saves both time and money and is environmentally friendly. According to Christ, the use of heat is 100% reliable in controlling microbial contamination for applications in sensitive fields such as the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The sanitisation program is installed into the PLC of the system and allows independent sanitisation cycles of the softener, the RO and the EDI stages. Once the purified water has been heated to 80°C by a heat exchanger, the temperature is maintained for 30 minutes, during which time the entire system is flushed with the hot water. The water is then cooled to the operating temperature. The whole process takes around four hours.
