The RS3 pump from Rieke Packaging Systems, Englass, is a convenient and efficient hygienic dispenser, capable of handling anything from liquids to viscous gels to creams, and is currently being used to dispense Spirigel – an alcohol-based disinfectant from Ecolab. Available in a wide variety of dosing formats, the pump is finger-operated, and, in the case of Spirigel, is used to dispense a consistent 1ml dose. It also features a customised outlet valve that will prevent leakage if the bottle is accidentally inverted or squeezed, and is waterproof. As infection control remains under the spotlight, and with 9% of UK patients suffering a healthcare associated infection (HAI), hand decontamination has never been observed so stringently. The RS3 offers a simple and effective way to counter contamination, and Sprigel's proven formula is already established in many hospitals.
