Gains a foothold in Ireland for further European expansion

Vention Medical has bought Ansamed, an Irish supplier of advanced medical tubing solutions, expanding its capabilities in the development and manufacture of catheter-based medical devices used in surgical procedures.

No financial details were revealed.

Ansamed's technology and breadth of experience in extrusion and braided tubing will add to Vention’s capabilities in balloons, shrink tubing, and catheter assembly.

Vention said the transaction also gives it a strategic presence in Ireland to serve as a base for further European and international expansion.

Vention Medical, headquartered in Marlborough, MA, US, is a medical device outsourcing company whose capabilities include product design and development, custom components such as medical balloons and heat-shrink tubing, plastic injection moulding and complete device assembly.

Dan Croteau, chief executive of Vention Medical, said the acquisition was ‘an extraordinary opportunity’ for the firm to strengthen its ability to deliver innovative components and cost effective supply chain solutions to medical device customers.

“The acquisition of Ansamed affirms our commitment to invest in leading minimally invasive technologies,” he said. “They will be a great addition to our team.”

Bairbre Meehan, managing director of Ansamed, added. “Vention’s commitment to growing our business, and its complimentary capabilities in balloons, shrink tubing, and catheter assembly, are a perfect fit for Ansamed.”
