Vast AMD fab planned in upstate New York
AMD chairman and ceo Dr. Hector Ruiz and state governor George Pataki have confirmed plans to construct a multi-billion dollar semiconductor manufacturing plant – the most advanced in the world – in upstate New York.
One of the largest private sector industrial investments in the history of New York state, when built the fab is expected to create 1,200 new high-tech jobs and more than 3,000 indirect jobs. The facility will cost US$600m to construct, and its 1.2 million ft2 will house approximately $2.6bn in manufacturing tools.
Construction is scheduled to begin between July 2007 and July 2009 and the facility will be fully operational between December 2012 and December 2014.
