Test data reveals that AsepticSure eliminates superbugs

Published: 9-Mar-2010

Medizone International of San Francisco, US has completed the first full-scale trial of its AsepticSure hospital sterilisation system.

Work will continue on the testing programme to expand the firm’s understanding of factors that will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of AsepticSure, particularly when dealing with contaminated textiles in hospitals.

“All pathogens that cause HAIs were completely eliminated from stainless steel surfaces at concentrations well above 6 log,” said Dr Michael Shannon, Medizone’s director of medical affairs. “These results have confirmed the laboratory findings reported earlier this year, but what is of even greater significance are the insights gained into the technical modifications necessary to accommodate the unique requirements of decontaminating within a hospital environment.”

Medizone has assembled an international team of engineers to finalise the design of the first AsepticSure prototype to be used in hospital beta testing, which will begin later this spring. The company will build four highly instrumented prototypes for use in its hospital programme, forming the basis for final production design work, manufacturing and commercialisation later this year.

Current research is being conducted at Medizone's laboratories at Innovation Park, Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
