Sterigenics completes US$826m purchase of Nordion
The company says it has created the only vertically integrated sterilisation company in the world
Sterigenics International, a global provider of outsourced contract sterilisation services, has finalised its US$826m acquisition of Nordion, a Canadian supplier of sterilisation technologies and medical isotopes.
Nordion will become a standalone business within Sterigenics, remain headquartered in Ottawa and continue to operate under the Nordion name.
'For more than 30 years, we have known the Nordion organisation and have deep respect and appreciation for their people and expertise,' said Michael Mulhern, CEO of Sterigenics International. 'By completing this acquisition, we are creating the only vertically integrated sterilisation company in the world and will have a broader product portfolio, service offering, and global footprint.'
This is the second strategic acquisition by Sterigenics this year. In March, the company bought Food Technology Service, a Mulberry, Florida irradiation facility that uses gamma radiation to provide contract sterilisation services to the medical products, packaging and food industries.
Headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, Sterigenics International has 39 facilities in 11 countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
