SciLog technology up and running at Parker Bioscience UK site

Published: 26-Feb-2019

The new suite, featuring SciLog technology, will provide a platform for testing and optimising development processes

Filtration specialists, Parker Bioscience Filtration has opened the doors of its new SciLog testing suite for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The installation, at the company’s Birtley, UK site, will equip the site to test and optimise key stages of a production process.

As a part of a phased investment programme at the site, the SciLog Suite will enhance the technologies on offer, while also being used to train operators and engineers.

Initially, the suite will feature the SciLog SciPure FD system, which automates, standardises and encloses final bulk filtration and dispense operations. Biopharmaceutical manufacturers will be able to use this to gain a greater understanding of how their processes will work in practice.

Going forward, the subsidiary of Parker Hannifin will be improving the suite further. The company is currently in the process of installing three more systems; the SciLog SciFlex TFF, SciLog SciFlex NFF, and the SciLog SciPure System.

  • The TFF is a semi-automated single-use bioprocessing system for tangential flow filtration.
  • The NFF is a configurable semi-automated single-use bioprocessing system for normal flow filtration.
  • The SciLog SciPure System fully automates normal flow or tangential flow filtration.

The company has stated that more upgrades are also in the works.

With a capacity of more than 20 people, the suite provides a resource for personnel working in process development. Those using the testing facility will also have access to Parker’s portfolio of product specialists, single-use system design engineers and the company’s Technical Support Group.

Commenting on the opening, Guy Matthews, Global Market Development Manager at Parker Bioscience Filtration, said: “The suite will help to optimise processes and ultimately, generate greater efficiencies. Alongside additional new facilities here in Birtley, the suite is playing an important role in both strengthening our European operations and enhancing the services we offer to our global customer base.”
