Queen's Award for Air Products
Air Products has been awarded the Queen's Awards for Enterprise: Innovation 2004, for its BIP technology, which uses a patented method of removing impurities as the gas is withdrawn through a self-contained purifier built into a gas cylinder. The BIP technology provides the ultimate zero gas giving longer chromatographic column life, improved analytical resolution and improved consistency. Each cylinder delivers product containing less than 10 parts-per-billion (ppb) of oxygen and less than 20 ppb of water, while hydrocarbons and halocarbons are also significantly reduced. The BIP technology is currently used for helium, nitrogen and argon supply. The award recognises Air Products' Special Gases Group for its efforts in developing technology to meet customers' requirements in modern analytical chemistry techniques, such as gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and other specialised applications. "This award is a wonderful recognition of the innovative spirit demonstrated by our team and the commercial success we have achieved in the last five years" commented Ivo Bols, vice president, Northern Continent and Packaged Gases Europe.
