PFM wrap machine aids efficiency for product packing firm
Clinical solutions provider Rocialle in South Wales, has boosted its process efficiency with the introduction of a new machine designed to wrap a range of the company’s wound care products.
The PFM Scirocco servo-assisted, horizontal flow pack wrapping machinefrom PFM Packaging Machinery, was installed onto a dual input conveyor at Rocialle’s facility to help the company fulfil high volume orders. As a result, the company has been able to make considerable waste reductions.
The machine’s hygienic construction and long dwell sealing system makes it ideal for wrapping Rocialle's wound care products. The Scirocco can produce up to 90 packs a minute with high integrity peelable seals for easy opening at the point of use. This is a key feature for Rocialle, where accuracy and hygiene is paramount, as the products are used in accident and emergency departments and need to be quickly accessible.
Its versatility enables it to produce a variety of different flow pack sizes. Its flexibility, easy cleaning, programmable screen and automatic height adjustment make it ideal for packing almost any medical item.
It has a cantilevered hygienic construction and is accessible on all sides. The mechanical and electrical components are kept separately at the back of the machine, keeping the front free from obstruction and making it quick and easy to clean at every visible or hidden point.
The Scirocco also features a PFM patented continuous motion transversal sealing system, which helps the machine achieve high wrapping speeds - perfect for meeting this customer's target of producing a minimum of eight million packs a year.
Automatic film splicing which works with either printed or plain wrapping materials allows the machine to run continuously, adding considerably to the overall efficiency.
An integral on line printer adds production codes and other variable data essential for end user reference and traceability.
‘The machine is performing excellently and we have been able to see considerable reductions in waste and downtime,’ said Rocaille's manufacturing manager Gareth Francis. ‘Most importantly to the growth of our business is that it has increased our productivity far more than we had anticipated.’
