Viledon maximises energy efficiency

Viledon Filtration has carried out filtration optimisation on two of Aviza Techology's air handling units that deliver finely filtered air to one of several cleanroom environments at Aviza's Newport, South Wales facility.

Aviza is a supplier of advanced semiconductor equipment and process technologies for the global semi-conductor and nanotechnology sectors, and other related markets.

Viledon, a division of German firm Freudenberg Nonwovens, the largest global nonwovens producer, were tasked with carrying out a feasibility study in order to improve the energy efficiency of the existing air handling equipment at Aviza's facility, via optimisation of it's filtration systems using Viledon products. The air handling units are a critical factor in ensuring that the client's cleanrooms maintain the level of fine filtration required for their production environment.

Following a survey of the air handling equipment, Viledon, supported by Haven Engineering Services, selected an air handling unit for filter optimisation. By installing Viledon filters, the air handling units - independently monitored - rewarded the client with a 16.6% energy saving.

By optimising the filtration stages, the initial pressure drops were reduced by 48.78% without detriment to filter grade. This reduction culminated in a cost saving to the client of £905.00 per annum for each of the air handling units, Viledon says.
