New facilities for UK-based medical device packer
Derby, UK-based Riverside Medical Packaging has officially opened its suite of three new class 7 cleanrooms. The company which manufactures and contract packs medical devices is one of the largest UK producers of medical peel pouches & sachets.
The 2,500 m2 facility now includes three new high specification rooms adding 180 m2 of extra cleanroom space for the company. It brings the total number of cleanroom cells at the Derby factory to six.
The facility already incorporates a class 8 cleanroom, warehousing and administration together with facilities, engineering software and equipment that enables Riverside to design and produce the packaging machinery and tooling for blister packs and pouches, in-house.
David Shaw together with his father, the late Ivor Shaw, formed the company in 1979. It is now responsible for the packaging for more than 45 million medical devices per annum, anything from simple dressings to knee and hip implants. The company also has the facility to ultrasonically clean devices prior to packing thereby giving added assurance of near zero contamination and bioburden.
Managing director, Matthew Roe said: “Rapid growth approaching 20% this year, enabled us to bring forward our plans to increase manufacturing capacity. We now have one of the most advanced and prestigious facilities in the medical device industry.’
