New coating aims to keep sport clean
US-based SportCoatings, a division of the Coatings Specialist Group (CSG), has launched a breakthrough Sports Antimicrobial System (SAS) – a trio of products that combat microbial contamination and odour on sports surfaces.
The AEGIS Microbe Shield treatment powering SAS creates a long-lasting antimicrobial layer effective against a broad spectrum of all known bacteria, mould, fungi and algae.
"Athletic facilities have always combated issues of microbial growth on sports surfaces, from the famous 'locker room smell' caused by bacteria, to the fungus that causes ring worm and worse," said Art McWood, president of CSG.
SAS is comprised of three products: TurfAide, SportsAide and SportsAide Fabric Conditioner that treat a wide array of sports surfaces.
- TurfAide provides antimicrobial protection to synthetic turf systems from the infill particles of sand or rubber, to the fibers of synthetic grass.
- SportsAide imparts a durable, antimicrobial shield to a wide range of sports surfaces including locker rooms, whirlpools, gym mats and exercise equipment.
- SportsAide Fabric Conditioner provides antimicrobial protection, stain releasers and odour control to sports laundry like towels and uniforms for more than 60 washes.
"The AEGIS Microbe Shield becomes a durable part of the treated surface and functions through a physical mode-of-action versus the chemical poisoning associated with traditional antimicrobials," said Curtis White, chairman and ceo of AEGIS. "This physical mode-of-action prevents microbes from adapting to the shield so there is no ability for 'super bugs' to develop resistance."
