Bristol based technology project management and design specialists M+W Pearce Limited have completed the design and construction of a new pilot plant for the manufacture of microdisplays by their client MicroVue Limited in Dalgety Bay, Scotland.

MicroVue will manufacture SXGA and XGA Liquid Crystal On Silicon (LCOS) reflective microdisplays using technology developed by sister company, MicroPix Technologies Limited. The microdisplays employ LCOS technology, where the surface of the silicon chip, made by standard semiconductor manufacturing processes, is coated by Ferroelectric liquid crystal. Spokesman, Ian Tonge, commented, "We are very pleased to be involved with MicroVue on this project. This is a good example of our integrated, turnkey approach, where our wide-ranging experience is brought to bear to achieve optimum process and facility solutions. Our input into this project commenced right at the conceptual stage, with our Manufacturing Technology Group assisting MicroVue to determine the most effective process steps prior to us developing the facility design."
