M+W Zander wins contract for expansion of AMD’s Dresden site
Semiconductor manufacturer AMD has chosen German plant constructor M+W Zander as general contractor for expansion work at its Dresden site.
The Stuttgart-based company was awarded the order to support AMD’s conversion of its semiconductor factory Fab 30 to Fab 38 while continuing to carry out routine operations without interruption. M+W Zander will also be responsible for the hook-up of utility systems to the machinery assets of the new Bump Test building and expansion at Fab 36.
The new semiconductor plant Fab 38 is to be created by fundamental remodelling of the current plant Fab 30. Future production of the new fab will be carried out on 300mm wafers, while Fab 30 currently manufactures microprocessors on wafers measuring 200mm in diameter. The conversion will enable Fab 38 to make a substantial contribution to the planned capacity increase at the Dresden site.
M+W Zander is responsible for carrying out disassembly of previous machinery assets and the installation of new machinery on this project while operations continue to run without interruption. The project management comprises planning, purchase of subcontractor services, controlling, disassembly, removal and installation and hook-up of machinery and equipment. The M+W Zander project team is working in close co-operation with the AMD co-ordination team.
M+W Zander has a track record of successful co-operation with AMD on numerous other projects in Dresden. AMD’s plants Fab 30 and Fab 36 have already been constructed with the support of M+W Zander as general contractor.
