M+W receives new flat-panel order

M+W Zander of Jena, Germany, has received a follow-up order from AU Optronics of Longtan, Taiwan. M+W Zander is to engineer and construct approximately a 44,000m2 cleanroom area including connected HVAC systems. According to the company, the order lies within the upper eight-figure euro range. The company had already received the contract for the 15,000m2 cleanroom during the first construction phase of the new 5G Colour Filter Fab in April this year. The new order applies to the second and third construction phases of the production facility. M+W Zander has now received a total order volume of over e100m this year from AU Optronics. Mass production using the new cleanrooms is scheduled to begin soon, during the fourth quarter of 2003. AU Optronics will manufacture TFT (thin film transistor) – LCD panels using fifth generation glass substrates (1,100x1,250mm). AU Optronics is among M+W Zander´s key customers. The company, founded in September 2001 through the merger of Acer Display Technology and the Unipac Optoelectronics Corporation, is now the world´s third-largest manufacturer of TFT-LCD monitors, according to company sources. In the past, M+W Zander has been particularly active for Acer, engineering and constructing flat-screen production facilities for the company.
