Lightweight respirator to offer greater face protection
A new self-contained respirator designed to offer users protection against solid aerosols/particulates has been launched.
The Purelite Xstream is a new self-contained lightweight head mounted powered air purifying respirator (PAPR), which incorporates a polycarbonate faceshield to provide eye and face protection from impact and liquid splash.
The respirator weighs about 1kg the Xstream is the latest addition to the range of respiratory protection manufactured by Helmet Integrated Systems Ltd, and features twin TH2P filters and a rechargeable eight-hour battery pack located inside the helmet shell.
With an assigned protection factor of 20 (APF 20) the fan motor and filters deliver an airflow of 210 l/min, which is maintained at a minimum of 150 l/min when the battery duration is becoming exhausted. An airflow tester is provided for pre-use checking that the air flow is correct, and an audible warning device is fitted to indicate that the battery requires re-charge or replacement.
