LANXESS steps up material protection activities in Asia

Speciality chemicals company LANXESS is to open a microbiology test lab in Wuxi, China, in early 2008 to strengthen its competitiveness in the biocides business in Asia.

Managed by the Material Protection Products business unit (MPP), the new lab will help customers to select the most appropriate biocidal products and advise them on any related technical issues and problems. The MPP business unit is a leading manufacturer and supplier of biocidal active ingredients and formulations for use in wood preservatives, industrial applications, disinfectants and preservatives.

“In Asia and specifically China, suppliers who want to participate actively in the growth of this dynamic economic region must be able to offer customers innovative technical solutions flexibly and locally,” says LANXESS employee Michael Gerle, head of marketing for industrial biocides in the region. “Therefore, opening up the lab in Wuxi is an important step when it comes to positioning LANXESS as a leading supplier in China.”

The MPP business unit further plans in 2008 to expand its service centre in Singapore to enable it to respond even more flexibly to customer requests. Apart from standard analytical methods, new technical services include in particular tests for determining the effectiveness of biocides in coatings.

The beverage industry too will benefit from the expansion in Singapore. “To accompany the growth of Velcorin (a stabilising agent for the sterile filling of non-alcoholic beverages and wine) in the Asia-Pacific region, we must offer our customers rapid and targeted technical service,” said Ian Wood, regional head of the Beverage Technologies business line at MPP. “The new facilities in Singapore will make support of this kind possible and underpin our marketing activities in Asia.”
