Improved static dissipative sheet for softwall rooms

Static control specialist, TBA Electro Conductive Products (ECP) has introduced an improved, permanently static dissipative flexible sheet that it says is ideal for producing flexible softwalls for cleanrooms, static sensitive areas and similar applications.

The company says it offers better clarity, light stability and improved strength compared with previous generation products. The ECP 21140 sheet material is also said to deliver a range of desirable cleanroom characteristics including low offgassing, low particulate contamination and washability. The material is a permanently static dissipative clear polyester TPU sheet with surface resistivity of 109?/square making it suitable for applications such as flexible packaging and floor and table mats, as well as cleanroom softwalls. Available in two thicknesses, 0.4 and 1mm, and in widths up to 1400mm, ECP 21140 is humidity independent, aqueous washable and can be recycled. Static decay (1000 to 10V) is less than 0.1s with total outgassing of 1.36µg/g and toluene outgassing of 0.086ppm. ECP 21140 is based on an inherently dissipative polymer (IDP) alloy where a dispersed phase of static dissipative polymer is integrated within a host polymer. The host material maintains its physical properties while the IDP provides a dissipation path through the alloy. In this manner, permanently dissipative alloys with surface resistivities of 108 to 1010?/square are typically produced. The company also now offers a moulding service for fabrication of custom, static safe conductive storage solutions. Custom inserts and dividers can be produced for use with the company's standard range of storage products, or new designs can be drawn-up for production of boxes to customer specifications. To achieve the desired results TBA ECP can draw on a range of techniques, including vacuum forming, tool design and manufacture, thermoplastic injection moulding of static control materials and extrusion.
