Image sensor cleanroom

Published: 5-Jul-2001

Silicon Vision has established a facility in Dresden, Germany. A new production site for image sensors is being built, also in Dresden, with an investment of DEM50m.

This new production fab is more than 11,000m² which includes 840m² of cleanrooms. The plant will be used to expand capacity for image sensors made in a technology - thin-film on ASIC (TFA) - that claims to offer superior performance to CMOS and CCD devices. TFA technology combines CMOS with thin film techniques. The vertically integrated TFA image sensors achieve fill factors up to 100% providing higher sensitivity with the same given pixel size or lower cost for the same resolution as CCDs or CMOS active pixel sensors.
