Scotland-based laundry specialist Fishers is to lighten the load for staff at the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) by providing a full laundry service free of charge.
CHAS is the only charity that provides hospice services in Scotland for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions.
The laundry and textile rental business will provide Rachel House Hospice in Kinross with all of its guest room bed linen (sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases) and towels (bath towels and hand towels) and also launder them. The company plans to extend the service to Robin House in Balloch later in the year.
Jane McFarlane, Clinical Nurse Manager at CHAS, said the move will be 'a huge help towards the running costs of the laundry – one of our busiest departments which is in use 24/7 looking after towels, clothes and bedding'.
She added that it will also give staff the opportunity to spend more time with the children, which is what is most important to CHAS and the families that use Rachel House.
I can think of no more appropriate or deserving focus for us than CHAS
Cupar-based Fishers is Scotland’s largest commercial laundry and textiles rental business, laundering more than two million items a week, and is keen to increase its involvement in its local communities.
Michael Jones, Managing Director of Fishers, said: 'Laundry’s a time-consuming chore for most people but for us it’s our business and we love it. We’re thrilled that CHAS has accepted our offer to take care of their laundry for them and we’re pleased that this will free up staff to spend more time with the children and their families.
'As a long established Scottish business, we care passionately about the communities that we serve and I can think of no more appropriate or deserving focus for us than CHAS.'
As well as offering this regular service to the hospices, Fishers has also chosen CHAS as its corporate charity for 2015 and is planning to hold various fundraising and volunteering projects throughout the year.
