Energy chain from Igus floats on air
Igus UK has launched the LeviChain, an energy chain for long distances that could find application in cleanrooms.
Igus says that it is the world's first energy chain that 'floats' in a magnetic force field, and as a result is almost wear-proof and nearly silent-running. The LeviChain's force field resists the force of gravity, adjusting itself to its state of equilibrium without causing any vibrations. It is held in a state of constant tension magnetically and is fixed within a metal guiding trough mechanically, eliminating friction, because the upper and lower runs of the energy chain do not touch each other.
The LeviChain is cleanroom-compatible in accordance with ISO Cleanliness Class 4. It is designed for long, unsupported travels of a maximum 40 metres.
The new energy chain is available pre-assembled in three widths up to 75mm, and once installed, can be filled easily with cables and hoses, Igus says.
