UK-based Conveyor Systems Ltd (CSL) has been awarded a contract by a leading multinational pharmaceutical company to design and build an inspection and packaging belt conveyor to operate in a cleanroom environment and handle small phials containing anticancer drugs.

CSL designed a custom-built slimline, stainless steel belt conveyor with FDA-approved green belting.

Measuring just over 4 metres long x 200mm wide and fitted with a control panel, the conveyor has variable speed control (10-15 metres per min) to provide flexibility in operation.

To assist in detailed inspection and hand packing of the very small phials, which are just 70mm long x 30mm wide, the conveyor was designed with a smooth enclosed underside to enable operatives to be seated close alongside the conveyor.

Product is conveyed through inspection and the application of tamper-evident seals and accumulates at the end of the conveyor to be removed and placed into special packaging.

“Past experience in working with pharmaceutical and healthcare companies enabled us to demonstrate our knowledge of the strict hygiene requirements demanded by this sector and in the end, secured the contract,” said CSL director Steve Graham.
