Cool conversion for Caddy

Published: 11-Apr-2005

The conversion of Volkswagen Caddy vans for chilling operations is attracting interest from companies involved in the transportation of food and lab samples in hygienic conditions. Volkswagen's Benfield Van Centre in Newcastle carried out a conversion for Cold Consortium, which chose the newly-developed under-bonnet refrigeration system from GAH Refrigeration. The converted Caddy features TCC pressure-bonded 50mm insulated panels made from high density CFC-free extruded polystyrene, which is known for its high strength and excellent temperature retention properties. The panel set is bonded into the vehicle load space to prevent cold bridges forming to the metal work of the vehicle, thereby reducing the transmission of load temperature to the exterior. The interior load space also receives a treatment of 'food friendly' epoxy resin to give it a high gloss, easy to clean surface, which is impregnated with Envirocare Bactericide.
