Bookham closes two sites

Bookham Technology has announced that it is to close two out of its four manufacturing sites. Facilities in the UK (Swindon) and USA (Maryland) are to close. Bookham believes its Milton Park site in Abingdon, UK, is adequate to annually produce $306m worth of passive optical components on silicon using the company's ASOC process. About 70 jobs will be lost of Bookham's 750 workforce.
