Bolidt launches antimicrobial technology in Middle East

Technology kills bacteria as soon as they come into contact with the floor or wall surface

Bolidt Synthetic Products & Systems is taking a step towards helping hospitals and medical centres in the Middle East in their fight against multi-resistant bacteria with the launch this week of its state-of-the-art antimicrobial flooring and wall systems at the Hospital Build and Infrastructure Exhibition and Congress in Dubai.

The firm’s systems, already launched in Europe, have been purpose-developed for the healthcare sector and use a patented mechanical technology that kills multi-resistant bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and MRSA as soon as they come into contact with the floor or wall surface. This technology, which has been through extensive laboratory testing in collaboration with independent Dutch research organisation TNO, is supplied and installed by Bolidt throughout the world.

Unlike the outdated chemical techniques that are often used to prevent the spread of bacteria, Bolidt says its systems are based on a patented mechanical technology, by which the bacterium is killed as soon as it comes into contact with the floor or wall due to the difference in electrical charge between the Bolidt surface and the bacterium itself.

The company says the technology prevents bacteria from becoming resistant to the mechanical attack so that they are unable to reproduce. Large surfaces are thus protected against the growth and spread of bacteria.
