Ansell raises the price of its medical gloves

The escalating cost of latex has prompted Ansell Healthcare, barrier protection products manufacturer, to increase its sales prices of surgical and exam gloves.

Over the past 18 months the price of latex has risen by 120% as a result of increasing market demand (especially from China), adverse weather in rubber-producing countries, and the knock-on effect of hikes in oil and freight transport costs.

Latex constitutes approximately half the cost of manufacturing a natural rubber latex (NRL) exam glove, and despite its efforts to avoid price increases (including fuel savings and implementing manufacturing efficiencies), Ansell has had to adjust its pricing.

“Ansell has implemented cost savings measure in manufacturing facilities and worked with suppliers to reduce the effect of price pressure”, said Holger Fürstenberg, managing director of Ansell Professional Healthcare Europe.
