Ampac Flexibles launches lidstock for demanding sterile applications
Ampac Flexibles—Converted Products, a unit of Ampac Packaging, has introduced a thick-gauge lidstock for demanding pharmaceutical/medical device applications.
Flexi 6864 is a polyester/foil/heat-seal coated polyethylene for physically demanding applications such as orthopedic parts, cardio kits, diagnostics and other heavier medical device/sterile medical disposable items.
The structure has been engineered to heat seal to thermoformed trays made from a wide variety of materials including Barex acrylonitrile, amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET), crystallized PET (CPET), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP) and others.
Flexi 6864 features a thick (75-gauge) polyester and a 1 mil foil layer to help create a high oxygen/moisture/microbial barrier for the tray’s contents. The extra thickness is also needed to contain heavier-weight items and prevent the contents from being accidentally exposed prior to use.
Additionally, Flexi 6864 has been engineered to overcome the delamination issues experienced with some structures. It is also said to perform well through all production and use phases, including laminating, slitting, heat sealing, transport and end-use.
Ampac Flexibles also has a 10-colour flexo press that enables reverse printing on the polyester layer for superior colour resolution.
