An award-winning air quality technology company has been given the chance to showcase its research knowledge and product range to an international audience at a recent conference and exhibition in Virginia, US.

Manchester-based company Plasma Clean was invited by conference sponsor Applied Plasma Technologies – a leading US company specialising in plasma combustion systems for defence and industrial customers – to demonstrate its product range and present a paper at the four-day exhibition last month.

Plasma Clean provides innovative technology solutions to air quality problems. Its core technology – gas plasma – cleans, purifies and deodorises indoor air for domestic, commercial and industrial customers. Investors include the University of Manchester’s intellectual property company UMIP and NESTA. Plasma Clean is also commercialising research drawn from the University of Manchester’s School of Chemistry.

Earlier in 2007, Plasma Clean was awarded a research and development award by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).

“The Grants for Research and Development (GRAND) scheme helps businesses and individuals carry out the type of research and development work that can lead to technologically innovative products moving towards the commercial market place,” said Mark Hughes, executive director for enterprise and skills at the NWDA. “The grants for research and development (GRAND) scheme helps businesses and individuals carry out the type of research and development work that can lead to technologically innovative products moving towards the commercial market place."
