Sterigenics acquires Italian sterilisation company
Third acquisition for contract sterilisation company this year
Sterigenics International, a global provider of contract sterilisation, gamma technologies and medical isotopes based in Deerfield, Illinois in the US, has acquired Gammarad, Italy’s leading gamma sterilisation provider, for an undisclosed sum.
Gammarad, established in 1969 and located in Bologna, Italy, provides gamma irradiation sterilisation services for the biomedical, pharmaceutical, food packaging and cosmetics industries.
The acquisition follows an active year of expansion for Sterigenics. In March, the company bought Food Technology Service for an undisclosed sum, and in August acquired Nordion for US$826m.
Sterigenics' CEO Michael Mulhern said that in addition to these acquisitions, the company has committed more than US$32m in growth capital to expand existing facilities across the Americas and Europe.
Private equity firm GTCR acquired Sterigenics in 2011 for $675m from another private equity firm, Silverfleet Capital.
