Laboratories involved in high-throughput gene assays and users of robotic systems for biological processes may need to enclose their systems to ensure process integrity, while making sure that they also maintain protection. Bigneat manufactures cabinets that provide this sterile environment. Accessed by hinged or sliding doors, and with two HEPA filtration units included – one within the roof of the enclosure that blows sterile air downwards over the apparatus; the other under the unit, which draws air down at the front of the enclosure and exhausts back to the room – the systems can be described as being of a 'Class II Type'. However, they also offer significant cost savings over Class II cabinets that need to meet specific exhaust and recirculation criteria. Twenty-five enclosures of this type are being used worldwide with satisfactory results.
