Lifting the regulatory burden
On 1 July 2006, installations with explosive atmospheres will have to comply with European Directive 99/92/CE and all hoisting equipment in such production sites will have to possess ATEX certification or undertake a risk analysis and be brought into compliance.
Verlinde Technologies, a French constructor of hoisting equipment is now offering a standard ATEX version of its EUROLIFT BH belt-actuated electric hoist. Specifically designed for applications with stringent hygiene and safety requirements (agricultural foodstuffs, white rooms, the chemical and petrochemical industry), the EUROLIFT complies with Directive 94/09/EC and is approved by INERIS.
The device features a hoisting capacity of 500kg to 6.5 tonnes; high-strength rot-proof belt (also available in stainless steel); high-security belt guide, top and bottom limit switches and load electromagnetic limiting device as standard; two-speed hoisting motor with temperature sensors; emergency stop and ATEX EEx d IIB or IIC gland and electric cabinet. It is also available for explosive, dust-laden atmospheres bearing the label ATEX Ex II 2/3 D IP65 T+135°C.
